Know what to do if stopped by Police

Stopped by the police?

Keep both hands on wheel unless told to do otherwise.
Tell your passengers to remain silent. They do not have to answer any questions.
Give the officer your drivers license, insurance, and registration. DO NOT answer any other questions.
If the officer asks, “Is there any reason why I can’t search your car?”Say: “No, but I don’t consent.”

DO NOT answer friendly questions like: “Where are you going?”
If an officer stops you on the street and asks questions, they are looking for a reason to arrest you.
Instead of answering questions, ask “Am I under arrest, detained, or am I free to go?”
DO NOT be tricked into making a statement.
If you are detained, you are not required to answer questions. Request a BRCK Attorney, and then remain silent
DO NOT give fake information such as name or date of birth.

Police are valuable public servants, but they are not your friends.
DO NOT argue or curse with officers. This will only intensify the situation and can be used against you later on.
If you are arrested, ask for an attorney IMMEDIATELY. DO NOT answer any questions or make any statements.
DO NOT make statements about the incident to anyone other than a BRCK Attorney.
DO NOT be coerced into pleading GUILTY or “NO CONSENT” under any circumstances.
